GermTrax is an interactive website that tracks the spread of sickness and disease. Using an interactive map, users can view symptom reports from their neighborhoods and around the world. GermTrax collects this data both actively (there is a page where users can submit their symptoms and optionally download corresponding geo-location data from social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Google+) and passively through web-crawling technologies. Additionally, registered users can sign up for email alerts - GermTrax will send notifications when symptoms are reported near their home, place of work, children's school or any other location of interest. GermTrax aims to illuminate both small and large-scale health trends, in an effort to make the world a happier and healthier place.
